COVID-19

Though we recognize that we and many of our guests may now have received COVID vaccines, the continued spread of new contagious strains means that we will continue to enforce all COVID precautions during the 2021 season.

overview

  • Maximum normal capacity at the Birdhouse is 12, but we are capping MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY of 8 GUESTS, regardless of age.

    • CHILDREN: Guests traveling with children under 12 are generally encouraged to seek other accommodation. As a reminder, the Birdhouse Inn does not have televisions or fast internet, but does have elevated porches, balconies, and rock walls which are tempting to little adventurers. If you do think our Inn is a good fit for your family, get in touch with us.

  • SELF CHECK-IN will be immediately to your left upon entry into the main door, including a binder with information about the inn, and the specifics of your room, a copy of our policies, and the keys. Please take this binder with you and read through it. If we are not available to introduce you to the Inn, please follow the printed instructions.

  • SELF CHECK-OUT is very easy! Please return the check-in binder and keys to the check-in desk and deposit any borrowed drinkware in the bus tub.

breakfast & Food

  • Please PROVIDE ALL FOOD RESTRICTIONS PROMPTLY UPON CHECK IN. We go through great effort to source our local ingredients and cook breakfast from scratch. We are not a restaurant, you cannot “order” your breakfast. We can accommodate most reasonable restriction requests but we need to know at least the night before.

  • BREAKFAST IS SERVED AT 9:00AM every morning, to all guests, in the sunroom and dining room. Places will be set ahead of time, and upon arrival, please seat yourself at a setting appropriate to the size of your group. (Settings will not be labeled with your name or room number.) If you have an early tour or obligation that makes the 9:00AM time difficult, let us know and we will try to accommodate you earlier.

  • A primary reason we have further reduced our capacity for the 2021 season is to ensure we can serve breakfast to our two parties in completely separate areas of the house (or outside, weather permitting).

  • Breakfast will not be served in guest rooms at this time.

  • You may come down to the kitchen and ask us for coffee/tea starting around 7:30AM (not earlier). All coffee/tea is made to order by the innkeepers, so a slight delay is to be expected.

masks

  • Guests and innkeepers alike ARE REQUIRED to wear face coverings when there is reasonable expectation that social distance (approximately 6 feet) will be breached.

    • This includes: passing through common areas when there are other parties in those spaces, occupying common areas concurrently with other parties

    • This does NOT include: sitting down during breakfast in the solarium or dining room, occupying common areas only with members of one’s own traveling party.

common areas

  • Common areas include the dining room, extra kitchen bathroom, living room, and solarium.

  • Please respect fellow B&B occupants (including your innkeepers) by MAINTAINING SOCIAL DISTANCING from other parties whenever possible.

  • To reduce surface contact, please DO NOT:

    • open any drawers or cabinets in the common areas. If you should need something that is not readily accessible, please ask one of us and we will assist you.

    • reshelve books or games after after you use them. Place them in the marked, designated “Returns” area in the living room so we can take them out of circulation and clean them.

    • adjust any thermostats

    • turn common room lights on and off. The living room lamps and dining room overhead lights are controlled by automatic timers. They turn ON at sundown and OFF at midnight.

hygiene & Sanitation

  • HAND SANITIZER and SURFACE DISINFECTANT SPRAY are available throughout the Inn in blue glass bottles. Please use them! (The Bactine spray provided in the private bathrooms is a topical wound care disinfectant, NOT surface spray.)

  • We encourage travelers to travel with their own sanitary supplies as well, but please DO NOT use other disinfectants on our wooden, fabric, or rattan surfaces.

  • We ask that you remember that wipes, towels, and other sanitary items are NEVER flushable, regardless of claims on the label. This is especially damaging to septic systems. We have provided trash bins. Should you disregard this and cause a plumbing obstruction, you will be charged for the repair.

  • Please REFRAIN FROM USE OF HEAVILY SCENTED PRODUCTS while in our B&B. They contribute a source of respiratory stress for many people. Use of room fragrance sprays or similar “fresheners” will result in a cleaning fee. PLEASE APPLY BUG REPELLANT OUTSIDE, though we have provided some, should you need it, by the check in station.

  • SMOKING IS NEVER ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING NOR ON THE PORCHES/BALCONIES. If you choose to smoke, please do so in the parking lot or elsewhere on the grounds and well away from others.

  • We will be FREQUENTLY DISINFECTING commonly touched surfaces, like door knobs, light switches, chairs, and tables, throughout the day.

  • All that said, experts agree that WASHING YOUR HANDS WITH NORMAL SOAP FOR 20 SECONDS is sufficient for reducing virus transmission. We will never provide “antibacterial” soap, and none of the products we supply contain triclosan/triclocarban.

DISPOSAL

  • Please PROMPTLY DEPOSIT CUTLERY, DINNERWARE, and GLASSWARE in the BUS TUBS.

  • Recycling is available in the living room, and normal trash cans are available throughout the property.
